Each year, this highly anticipated celebration brings together leaders, innovators, and visionaries from across the county to honor excellence, inspire collaboration, and highlight the stories that make Adams County strong. Beautification Award: Adams County Business and Training Center
The Adams County Business and Training Center transformed an aging structure into a state-of-the-art hub for workforce training, entrepreneurship, and business development. Featuring stunning murals, modern renovations, and thoughtfully designed meeting spaces, the Center now serves as a beacon of innovation in West Union. By repurposing an underutilized property into a thriving resource, the Center not only enhances the local landscape but also strengthens the county’s economic future.
Entrepreneur of the Year: Ryen Shiveley
Ryen Shiveley’s journey from educator to zoo owner is a testament to passion, perseverance, and courage. For a decade, he dedicated himself to teaching before taking a bold leap in 2018 to pursue his lifelong dream of owning a zoo. What began as a balance between teaching and business soon grew into a full-time calling—one that blends his love for animals with a commitment to education. Today, Ryen’s zoo serves as both an attraction and a hands-on learning environment, reflecting his belief that entrepreneurship is not only about taking risks, but about following the path that brings purpose and fulfillment. His story proves that dreams have no expiration date when fueled by dedication and heart.
Business of the Year: Hilltop Golf Course
Owned and operated by the McIntosh and Grooms families in Manchester, Ohio, Hilltop Golf Course has become a cornerstone for both recreation and community spirit. The 18-hole course offers golfers a memorable experience, while its welcoming atmosphere and delicious dining options make it a favorite gathering spot for families and friends. With a deep love for golf and a strong sense of community, the Hilltop team continues to give back to the people who support them, creating a business that is as generous as it is successful.
Outstanding Leader of the Year: Mike Pell
With more than 40 years in the banking industry, Mike Pell has dedicated his career to leadership, growth, and service. Since 2006, he has served as President and CEO of First State Bank, while also holding roles of influence across the region, including Vice Chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and a gubernatorial appointment to the Ohio Banking Commission. Locally, Mike is President of Leadership Adams and a board member of the Adams County Community Foundation. A resident of West Union with his wife Monica, Mike is also a proud father of five and grandfather of four, embodying both professional excellence and personal commitment to family and community.
Non-Profit of the Year: Leadership Adams
Founded in 2010, Leadership Adams is a vibrant organization committed to preparing the next generation of leaders in Adams County. With nearly 200 alumni, the program has launched more than 20 impactful projects, from creating the Adams County Hikers Guide to supporting the relocation of the Interfaith House and renovating the county fairgrounds. Through its Youth Academy, hands-on projects, and skills workshops, Leadership Adams continues to inspire, connect, and empower individuals who are shaping the future of the community.
